This piece started because I really wanted to tie a plane to a polar bear’s paw like a balloon, and it evolved from there. The man on the back of the bear is entirely sculpted by myself and is modeled somewhat after male figures portrayed in work by artist James C. Christensen who I had the opportunity to know briefly and who’s work I have admired for most of my life. I like the idea that he is on a journey of discovery and finding, which is a journey I have been on for a long time as my own life had experienced intense changes and accepting.
