Tortoise Series: Grounded Flight

There are moments when I can see myself just taking off to fly…metaphorically not literally. I mean, some days I wake up and feel like I can conquer the world and I have a weight of expectations for the day on my mind. A long list of things I can do to be AWESOME, then as the day goes on I realize that I can only accomplish a fraction of what I had hoped to accomplish, and the limitations of my own mortality weigh down on me. Grounded flight is about that feeling of wanting to conquer the world and be the hugest success, but having life get in the way, feeling held back by the minutia of the mundaness of day to day living and my own self-imposed limitations.

This sculpture comes with the wooden base I made which is a piece of old hickory found in the Sonoran Desert where I grew up.
